我厂初建于1923年的日商“燧生火柴厂”，于1931年由瑞典火柴公司组建成“美光火柴公司”。新中国成立后更名为“上海火柴厂”先后又更名为“瑞典火柴公司”、“华光火柴公司”。于1999年10月由原上海火柴厂再次组建为“上海美光火柴厂”。
　　本厂是全国同行业中最著名的百年老厂，八十年代，我厂不仅为西藏等边疆地区援建了数十家火柴厂，还先后对朝鲜、越南、几内亚、蒙古、罗马尼亚、印度近十几个国家进行了技术援助，并为盟国提供了专用设备，受到了盟国的一致好评。
　　90年我厂又从日本引进了国内第一条高档火柴的生产流水线，采用先进的磷面工艺，按国际标准生产各类流行火柴。目前我厂生产的十多个品种，不仅满足了百姓日常用火，还为各大宾馆、饭店、餐厅提供专用礼品火柴，适应了市场特需，同时产品还远销美国、日本、韩国、西班牙、埃塞俄比亚等几十个国家，深受中外客户的厚爱。
